Colony Box Weights
10-Frame vs. 8-Frame
The weight of the box will fluctuate throughout the year depending upon its fullness.
In general, on a hive colony, a 10-Frame box will weigh 8-16 pounds more than an 8-Frame box.
The following charts show the boxes full of honey.
For brood boxes, a full brood box will weigh around 25% less than a honey box.
Again, weight depends on fullness, honey/brood ratio, and the number of bees in the brood box.
